This book was helpful to me. I worked as a staff pharmacist in a retail pharmacy for 7 years. After taking a new job in a long term care pharmacy, I found myself needing a review of IV therapy. I bought this book and it was helpful to me as I transitioned into a more clinical position.
Helpful Reference and Learning Tool I own the paperback 3rd edition of this book which I purchased to self-study before my IV therapy validation in nursing school. I found this book extremely easy to read and understand despite the fact I had no previous knowledge of IV therapy. The chapters include a basic introduction that covers fluid & electrolytes, IV solutions, documentation and patient teaching. Other chapters cover: peripheral IV's, central IV's, IV medications, transfusions, chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition. There are also short quizzes at the end of each chapter. The appendices includes a practice exam, drug compatibility, example flow sheet for documenting, glossary and also additional references. The pictures, diagrams, and charts are EXCELLENT! Although this book goes MUCH more in depth than I currently need for my med/surg class I have used this book several times as a reference.
Great Reference book for all healthcare providers Every healthcare profession from Paramedics,LPN's RN's and even Physicians will find this book helpful. The book is full of various methods of starting IV's and troubleshooting. The other reviews state the book is good for nurses without much IV experience, but the book is a nice way to review your skills and make changes to your daily practice of starting IV's.
good book very good important stuff, for those of us who were given the minimum in class
This book is a MUST HAVE for Nursing Students! I'm a Senior nursing student and this book is WONDERFUL!!! Although we learn a lot in nursing school, IV therapy is one thing that we all seem to have to learn "on the job". I was so confused until I found this book!!! It explains everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in very easy to understand terms (probably good even for beginning nursing students). I have recommended it to all of my fellow nursing students, and many others find it as helpful as I have!
