Book Description This 200 page user-friendly training manual is divided into two parts. Part One is a "short course" on autism spectrum disorders (ASD) for people "in the trenches." Part Two takes a "cookbook style" look at the art and science of paraprofessional support for students with ASD and those with other cognitive impairments. Jam-packed with examples, and summary "take home" messages, How To Be A Para Pro contains specific information on four separate categories of support: Peripheral, Direct Academic, Social / Play & Leisure, and Behavioral, as well as Data & Record-Keeping forms and ideas. Special features include a blueprint for determining the optimal level of caregiver support and ways to reduce prompt dependency, an abundance of reproducible record-keeping forms, and "how-to vignettes" to aid in the application of skills.

Bravo...Para Pro An excellent resource for teachers and para pro's alike. Provides great strategies, resources and guidelines to becoming an excellent paraprofessional working with children with autism but is also an excellent resource for para's working with any child with a disability. Great for Child Study Team members and teams working with children with disabilities.

A great book for parents and professionals This book explains different situations you WILL encounter working with special needs children and the classroom and beyond. It provides clear instructions on what to do and WHAT NOT TO DO in a variety of situations. I give this book to teachers, aides and professionals who work with my kid as holiday or welcome to the team gifts. It is a good read and resources.
Great for the classroom I found this book very helpful when working with children with autism. The way it is written makes it easy to read and well organized. The teacher I work with appreciated the book for the examples, suggestions and many reusable forms. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who works with children who have autism.
