Hardly Helpful I think everyone should take the time to learn to read Braille using and without using sight. However, not with this book. It's a very short book that teaches how to read and recognize Braille by sight, as that is what it is about, but it offers no chances to read braille with you fingertips. It's geared more towards children than adults, and teaches numbers and letters, but the most Braille you can read with your fingers is a poorly embossed alphabet on the back and the title on the front. I would no suggest buying this book. There are much better books out there, and some libraries offer free Braille. | ||
Great for my kids We adopted a blind child and my other kids (5 and 9, sighted)got this book as a gift at our new babies adoption shower. They enjoyed it so much they finished it in 2 days and can read all the letters by sight now. I know grade one is so basic, like others have stated, but my kids had fun and got to learn the concept of braille and how their new sister will read. It sparked interest to learn more and made them feel more connected to their sister. I highly recommend it for children. For adults looking to learn braille, not a good resouce :) | ||
Borderline garbage The only "Braille" in this book is on the front and back cover. Sure it "shows" you the braille, but how do you learn braille without touching it? Hello? | ||
Learned braille in a day - keep in mind that it is for beginners This book is great for beginners and as the title says for people that can see. I got this book because I was intrigued by the braille that you see on elevators and everything. I really like learning languages and of course the basics is learning the alphabet. This book is great in helping you to do that. I went through the exercises and made flash cards of braille letters. After only a day, I know the braille alphabet which is all I wanted. If you want to learn just the basics of braille, then this is a great book. | ||
Wonderful Book I purchased this book for my son so that me may use it for our homeschool lesson to celebrate Louis Braille and what he has done for the blind community. I am looking forward to teaching and also learning how to read and write in braille when we use this book. We will be using it in January and I can't wait to share this book with him. | ||
