Not exactly a "pocket" book! It's a great book, but it's not exactly a "pocket" book that you can stick in your pocket and walk around the OR with!!!! Should be reissued in larger print and maybe as a ring binder. Still highly recommended, but not easily toted around at work.
What a life saver! This book offers precise informaiton on operating room procedure as well as technique variations and instrumentation. It also provides circulator information for the operating room and supplies needed. This is a very good book and I was not without it during my surgical technology rotation! It was highly recomended by other professionals as well.
Good reference but certainly limited As the title implies, this is a "guide," so don't expect an exhaustive work on the operating room. In my opinion, a "drawback" of this book is that some of the information provided may not apply to or it may actually be completely different from what the nurse experiences in one hospital versus another. This can be frustrating for the nurse orientating to the operating room. The hospital or clinic where you work may do things somewhat differently, so don't get caught off guard and say, "Well, the book says we should do it this way!" I think the author does a good job providing basic information about the operating room, surgical procedures, setups, preps, supplies, etc., but there will certainly be variants depending on where you work. I think it's worth the investment, but don't get locked in to one text or think that this particular source is going to answer all of your questions or provide you with all of the information you need as a perioperative nurse. It's only a guide...have an open mind and be flexible. Most operating room orientations take at least one year, so expose yourself to various sources of learning.
Excellent purchase This book is exactly what any ST needs to prepare for an unfamiliar surgery or simply to brush up your knowledge. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is the lack of pictures. But other than that, no complaints, and recommend it to anyone in an OR
quick reference Very informative book on what you have not seen or done in the O.R.! Quick reference to help you prepare for your case! This book is worth getting!
