pretty good, but some serious errors This book is pretty good. The authors were renowned in their field. BUT...it is not that well written. Many of the explanations are too vague for a beginner. Example, the difference between Informed Consent and Expressed Consent - they do not make any effort to differentiate. Also, it was BADLY EDITED, and has a number of errors, as does the workbook, and testbank. Some of the answers to test questions are wrong, and most are written poorly. Sometimes it will tell you 2 different answers to the same question in 2 different parts of the book. Also, the Order of Draw is very outdated, since well before the latest edition updates. Most of the info is good, but unless you are taking a course from a great instructor who has spent a lot of time in the field, just get something else. My extremely distinguished teacher suggests "Phlebotomy Handbook: Blood Specimen Collection from Basic to Advanced (8th Edition) by Diana Garza and Kathleen Becan-McBride" (Paperback - Mar. 6, 2009) you can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Phlebotomy-Handbook-Specimen-Collection-Advanced/dp/0135134242/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265436502&sr=8-2 I just ordered the handbook, and will review it and compare it to this book within the next month or 2.
No answers for the workbook questions. If you purchase the workbook used, you do not have access to the website that answers the questions. When the seller omits this information, as this seller did, it borders on deception, in my opinion.
"I honestly don't know...." So, I wanted to use this book as a general review for phlebotomy so that I could be up-to-date with the current practices and procedures in the field. It turns out, there is no key for it. So, I went ahead and called the publisher and ask the nice young lady over the phone if she could tell me what other book or manual would have the key available, and she told me, and I quote, "I don't see a key available". I then responded nicely with, "oh...well, how would I know if I got the answers right or not", to which she replied-I kid you not-with, "You know what? I honestly don't know". Nice. I thanked her for her time and decided to purchase "The phlebotomy handbook" instead. I was so tempted to ask her, "I see...well, do you know where you are right now?" But I didn't 'cause it's almost Christmas and I don't want to be mean.
Great help! This is a great addition to the text. I'm glad I got it even though it wasn't required.
good information better than the text we used for the course, and the included CD is a real nice way to study for testing.
