The most overlooked book on bookstores shelves for doing well in college
To put it simply, Cal's book in my personal opinion is the most overlooked book on the shelves of bookstores that have a section on "college".

This is not a book that says, if you try harder it will work. It depends entirely on research done by him by interviewing students at major universities and literally "demystifying success".

We often tend to think that doing well in college means doing an inordinate amount of work and staying in the libraries all night and burning the midnight oil. This book and it's author at his blog [...] burn a hole through the touted 'burn the midnight oil theory'. It's been an eye-opener.

Full Disclosure: I discovered his book towards the end of my 4 years at college and found his topics on paper writing to be tremendously beneficial. I wish I had discovered the book sooner and was able to implement it in it's entirety. I was depending on other systems and whilst they were teaching me to study better, they didn't tell me anything about managing my life on somewhat of a daily basis and allowing more fun in my day to make my life better not only academically but socially as well.

This book works
I've been a C student my whole life. I liked learning... but hated school.

After this book, I've been on the Dean's List for the past 3 semesters. This book will actually show you how to study less and get better results. I wished I read this book early on in life. I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Excellent book for serious students
For anyone who's frustrated with 'how to study' books written by experts who never set foot in a modern college classroom, this is the book for you. I'm a freshman at a very large university and I love this book. Cal does a good job offering suggestions on how to eliminate bad habits (such as cramming all the homework in the night before it's due) and how to discover which ways work for you. The beauty of the book is that you can pick and choose which advice you use; it isn't a twelve step program or anything of the sort and Cal actually encourages his readers to experiment and modify his suggestions to their liking to find what works best for them. I would recommend this book for any student who is about to enter (or already in) college and wants a way out of the grind pit that many students waste their entire academic lives in.

Taught me how to study!!! BUY THIS BOOK!!!
This book is AWESOME! Not only is it based on a collection of interviews from students who actually got straight A's (at the nation's top universities) but it also teaches you easy things you can do to improve your grades, and your life. Time management is essential, and this book teaches an easy step to do every morning to manage your life and your studies. One of the best things I learned from the book was how to use "Q/R" to study and how to take notes effectively. My grades have significantly improved. AND I have more time! This book is awesome! DEFINITELY buy it! NOW!!!!!! Also Cal Newport, the author, has a really cool blog. Check it out!

wonderful book
This book is wonderful and very useful! I am a graduate student in Computer Engineering. And I have a very crowded schedule. So, I badly needed something like this.
I recently bought this book from Amazon and I did not expect to see the results so soon. But, the techniques outlined in Cal's book are very easy to understand and implement. In fact, they are so simple, one would think why didn't that come in his/her mind before. And the results that have shown up in last 3 weeks are more than amazing. I am much more productive, attentive in class and the test went really well! I wish I knew this 4 years ago. My undergrad would have been much more productive. Also, I will strongly recommend the students to visit Cal's blog for more motivation.
