Medical Terminology Book was in great condition when arrived. Received package in mail sooner than expected. Good price.
There's a better one This was the book required for the Medical Terminology class I'm engaged in. I've found it to be very similar to a book entitled; "Medical Terminology An Illustrated Guide" by Barbara Janson Cohen; which I purchased in preparation for this course. In both books, following the brief discussion of a body system covered in the chapter, there's a list of general medical terms followed by a much longer list of complex diagnostic, procedural, and pathological terms and their clinical definitions. It's like being expected to memorizing medical terms form a medical dictionary - definitions which are full of other terms which you, as a student, have little if any conception of. I would recommend both books as suppliments to a book entitled: "The Language of Medicine" by Davi-Ellen Chabner, which I found to be much more thorough and illustrative. The author is less cryptic and more conversational in her approach with a lot more illustrations than the book "Terminology for Allied Professionals." And those complex terms - they are not simply pulled out of a dictionary, but are thoroughly defined and explained in terms more understandable to a student. It is also more thorough in its coverage of the spelling and pronunciation of each term covered. I still use this book, "Terminology for Allied Health Professionals," but only as a supplimentary source.
Terminology for Allied Health Professionals Being new to the healthcare field, I have very little knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. This book is incredibly informative in a way that is understandable to even a beginner. It's well written, with clear, concise terminology and has plenty of color illustrations to help make sense of what would otherwise be overwhelming to a non-clinical person.
MORE INFO THAN YOU MAY EVER NEED! I am using this book right now in my Medical Terminology class and we are not using the whole book because I am not trying to be a Doctor or Nurse, but a Certified Medical Transcriptionist. Well, this book is impressive, to say the least. I am learning so much from the reading, the pictures, the 2 floppy disks and cassette tape that came with it. It is basically a textbook/workbook; there's a lot of review questions, etc. at the end of each chapter and also, on the floppies, there are sample tests and games to play to assist you in learning the material. Using the cassette tape has listening exercises on it so you can type along, as if the Doctor was dictating a letter and so you use it as dictation material and you can learn a lot of new medical terms that way, also. I don't think there could be a better book out there if you're wanting to learn Medical Terminology. I recommend it highly!
