A must have If you are taking the principal test in Texas, this book is a must have. Easy to follow and the ONLY book to buy. Full of information and techniques.
Outdated, maybe good if you don't know competencies well First, let me state that I did pass my TExES principal exam. But I don't think it was due to this book. I bought this book because (1) there is very few principal TExES review material and didn't have much to choose from anyway, (2) felt like I needed some kind of review, and (3) this book had good reviews on Amazon. I'm writing this review in 2009, and I bought this book in 2009. It's very outdated for this year. It still talks about the TAAS test (we have long switched over to the TAKS test now). It spends 99% of the book going over the competencies and what they mean...then the author advises that the best way to study is to read the competencies over and over again. While the author does a good job discussing each competency in detail, I didn't find this to be helpful to study for the test when what I really wanted was a chance to apply it and practice. It has some "practice questions" at the end that are no where near the format on what is presented on the TExES. Maybe in the past the test was in a different kind of format? My advice is not to waste time with an outdated book that doesn't really give you practice. I found the actual released TExES practice principal manual (it's free- google it) to be the most helpful. The manual comes from the test-makers themselves and it has all the competencies that you can read over and over as well as actual real practice questions (about 40 of them) at the end with the answers. It's up to date and it's what I studied.
Texes Study Guide The book is in great condition, a little outdated because Education changes so rapidly, but great study guide
I used it to Pass the Colorado Principal Exam! In Colorado we have the PLACE Exam for Principal licensing. However there are no official study guides for the test. I purchased this book after failing the PLACE and found that the TExES Domains are almost identical to the PLACE. Dr. Wilmore also gave great test taking strategies that were extremely helpful. I used these strategies on the provided practice test, and two PLACE Practice test (one for Principal and one for Superintendent) and scored a passing grade. Then I applied them to the actual PLACE Exam and passed!
Wonderful Text from the TExES Queen Dr. Wilmore's Book Passing the Principal TExES Exam is a great help to the students working towards their Principal (mid-management) certification. The text is built around the Domains and Competencies set by SBEC and will guide you to achieve your personal best score!
