Product Description This is a comprehensive mid-level text that takes a theoretically balanced, student-centered approach to social problems and offers top quality content at a low, student-friendly cost. It is unique in that it progresses from a micro- to macro-level of analysis, focusing first on such problems as health care, drug use, and family and then broadening to the widening concerns of such topics as population growth and conflict around the world. The text is also distinctive in that every chapter defines the nature of social problems in a global context as well as a U.S. context. Its micro- to macro-level of analysis is also present in the way it explores social problems and enables students to apply what they learn to themselves. On the macro level, the text explores each of the three major theoretical explanations, describes the consequences of the problem, and provides alternatives solutions and policies. On the micro level, pedagogical features such as The Human Side and Self and Society enable students to understand social problems and see how what they learn applies to themselves. This dual approach enables students to learn about social problems in a unique organized manner that facilitates learning by making it more relevant to themselves on a personal level.

Pleased with my purchase Dear Amazon: I was a little spectical about ordering a college textbook online(wondering if I would actually receive it and on time),but I did get it on the first day of my class, in great condition and alot cheaper than the college bookstore! Thank you very much...Susan Biddle
not good I ordered my book on the 11th along with a number of other textbooks and I never recieved it. I ordered my book from krystle1115 and when i didn't recieve i emailed her and she never emailed me back on the subject. I ended up having to file a claim report and it is still being investigated. Just to warn you don't order from this seller.
Confirm Edition The book came through the mail exceptionaly fast and was very pleased. When I opened the package I then realized that it was the wrong edition. It was entirely my fault for not confirming the edition with the seller. When I ordered it, it said brand new with a CD. I thought that meant that it was the newest edition because usually the CD gets lost with the older editions. I don't know if I would have bought this book knowing that it was two editions old. The book was a little over priced considering the edition is no longer used. Fortuanlly, I was able to use most of the book in class. Excellant delivery but I would just email first to confirm what edition it is.
