Book Description This unique volume records the history of the 50,000 Italian prisoners of war captured in North Africa and transported to the U.S. as POWs. After Italy surrendered to the Allies, 35,000 of these POWs worked with the U.S. Army as "cooperators" in "Italian Service Units." The 15,000 "non-cooperators" remained in stockades until their release in 1945 and 1946.
