I used this for introductory mechanics in engineering
I have mixed reviews about this text. When going through the earlier material on statics and the first part of mechanics, I found the book to be difficult to learn from. Part of this was because my school didn't teach linear algebra until later, for some strange reason, making it difficult to figure out the cross & dot products presented early on. Eventually, when I was taking a course using the later chapters, I found the book much more helpful, because I had the mathematical background to handle it, and even though the material was at a higher level, I understood it better than the earlier material. So, in short, this book is okay, just make sure you're good at math before getting it.

Good Statics and Dynamics Book
Although I never took either class, I would rate this a relatively good statics and dynamics book. This is not the type of book where you can "skim" through pages and learn the topics. It might be a tough read, but I still give it a high rating.

One of the worst textbooks I've used.
I'm an engineering student currently going to school in Utah. This book is one of the worst I've used. The sections give hardly any explantation on the subjects they are trying to teach. The examples have hardly any relevancy to the problems. Some of the equations in the front cover are wrong. And the answers in the back of the book are wrong quite often.

My biggest complaint is with the actual sections. They do little more than offer proofs for the equations that go with the new material, then send you on your merry way. All fine and dandy, but I'd like a little more explanation given, such as when I can't use an equation given some circumstances. I've wasted many, many hours on problems because the equations I've used were the wrong ones to use.

If you have to use this book, get the solutions manual. It will save you a lot of time and stress.

Worst Dynamics Textbook Ever!
This is the worst textbook I have ever used. The discussion is brief and shallow at best and examples are simplified. The examples provide no foundation for working the problems. The book is also full of errors. You would think after 9 editions the book would be correct!

Pretty Decent Book
This book does a fairly good job of explaining basic dynamics and statics. The main problem, however, is that the statics portion of the book includes much clearer examples that relate to the problems at the end of each chapter. In the dynamics section, most of the examples are simple, and less easily understood. The best way to learn the material is not by using the book, but by having a good instructor, especially when doing dynamics. I'd recommend this book, despite it's high price.
